Welcome to The Magnet School for Innovation, Exploration & Engineering!

We are a New York City Magnet School in southeastern Queens serving grades PreK-5. Students here are invited to explore, discover and innovate through hands-on projects that connect science, technology, and engineering to the real world. Our students are our future leaders, educators, doctors, lawyers, scientists, politicians, and entrepreneurs, just to name a few.

To ensure equitable access to rigorous learning, empower student leaders, and maintain high standards of teaching, P.S. 52 commits to the following core instructional principles across all classrooms:

Teachers clearly define and communicate the pathway to success so that every student takes ownership of their learning journey.

• Student Ownership: Students can articulate the lesson's learning target and success criteria.
• Core Questions: Every student can answer:
• "What am I learning today?"
• "Why is this learning important?"

2. Engaging Tasks & Continuous Assessment

Instruction meets students where they are while pushing them toward high-level critical thinking, collaboration, and self-reflection.

• Rigorous Learning: Students engage in differentiated, high-rigor tasks (DOK Levels 2 & 3) designed to foster 21st-century problem-solving skills. 
• Self & Peer Assessment: Students regularly evaluate their own work and collaborate with peers using clear rubrics.
• Core Questions: Every student can answer:
• "What am I doing well?"
• "What do I need to work on?"
• "How do I know where I stand?"

3. Actionable Data & Student-Led Reflection

Data is used transparently and interactively, transforming feedback into measurable growth and dynamic student leadership.

• Work & Rubric Analysis: Students analyze rubrics and exemplar work samples (High / Medium / Low) to identify learning trends, address misconceptions, and construct next steps

As a NYC Magnet School, we welcome applications from all students within the New York City DOE. First priority is given to students living within our zoned area. Find your attendance zone and district.

If you are in our attendance zone, you will be automatically assigned to our school unless you apply and are accepted elsewhere. To apply from outside the zone for PreK or Kindergarten enrollment, follow the NYCDOE Kindergarten Enrollment Process. 

For out-of-zone enrollment (grades 1-5), visit our office during school hours for a Magnet School application.
